hidnr — Menu Bar Icon Manager for macOS
Hide the Menu Bar Icons You Don't Need
Overview
- Built a native macOS menu bar app in Swift that hides the icons you do not need, as a free alternative to Bartender.
- Built for macOS 27 and working on macOS 14 and later, on Apple Silicon and Intel.
- Handled two different mechanisms: a stretched divider on macOS 14 to 26, and per-app visibility through macOS itself on macOS 27, where the old trick no longer works.
- Added auto-hide after a few seconds, a quick panel on right-click and open at login.
- Set up a release workflow that builds a universal app, signs it with a Developer ID certificate, notarizes and staples the DMG, and updates the Homebrew cask.
- Distributed through GitHub releases and a Homebrew tap under the MIT license.
